We have seen a lot of interest in the advancement of electric mobility, and with Government of India is fully dedicated to make India a 100% EV nation by 2030 that led to a sharp rise in stock of companies with an exposure to EVs .In my last blog we have seen the list of electric cars showcased at the 2018 Delhi autoexpo, now let’s look at the electric bikes & scooters showcased.


TVS Creon

TVS Creon at 2018 Delhi Auto Expo

TVS Motor Company has unveiled what the company describes as a "performance-oriented, electric scooter concept" at the Auto Expo 2018. The TVS Creon features a next generation electric motor with acceleration from 0-60 kmph in under 5.1 seconds and is claimed to have a range of 80 km. The battery can be charged to 80 per cent capacity in just 60 minutes. The TVS Creon is powered by three lithium-ion batteries capable of delivering 12 kW of instantaneous power. The compact batteries ensure high charge per volume of battery and has helped keep the dimensions of the Creon compact. The TVS Creon is built well, with sharp and sporty styling. So far, there's no word on when the concept will finally see production. But from all indications, TVS will be soon looking to launch an electric scooter based on the TVS Creon.

Emflux One

Bengaluru-based tech start-up Emflux Motors has unveiled India's first electric superbike, called the Emflux One at the Auto Expo 2018. The Emflux One is powered by Samsung Lithium Ion 9.7 kWh high power cells with a 60 kW AC induction motor, with power limited to 53 kW from the controller. The Emflux One is a full-faired electric superbike with top-of-the-line components like Brembo brakes with dual-channel ABS, single-sided swingarm, Ohlins suspension and fully connected smart dashboard with artificial intelligence capabilities. The pre-orders for the Emflux One will start in July 2018, with the first deliveries to begin in April 2019. The pre-orders for the Emflux One will start in July 2018, with the first deliveries to begin in April 2019. the Emflux One will be priced between ₹ 5.5 - 6 lakh and will be showcased at the company's experience centres in Bengaluru, New Delhi and Mumbai. Purchases of the Emflux One will be completely online through digital payment methods. Emflux is also working on a naked street model, called the Emflux Two, which will be launched subsequently.According to Emflux officials, the Emflux One will have a range of around 200 km on standard operating conditions.

Honda PCX Electric

The Honda PCX Electric Concept is Honda’s latest initiative in the field of electric vehicles. The electric scooter is equipped with a high output motor which Honda has developed independently. Aiming for a more harmonious mobility option PCX EV comes with removable lithium ion batteries based Honda Mobile Power Pack which can be charged separately or inside the scooter. The Power pack is swappable too, allowing the user to recharge quickly. The Honda PCX comes with a 0.98kW electric motor that is powered by the swappable lithium-ion mobile battery pack. As of now, Honda has revealed no further details or the technical specifications about the new PCX electric scooter. But, the company has confirmed that it plans to launch the scooter in several Asian markets, including Japan, in 2018.

UM Renegade Thor

UM Lohia Two Wheelers has unveiled the world’s first geared electric cruiser, the UM Renegade Thor at the 2018 Auto Expo in Greater Noida. The UM Renegade Electric has a typical cruiser silhouette, with a chiselled tank and seat. The fat 41 mm telescopic front fork hold the 17-inch spoke wheels shod with a 120-section rubber. The rear 15 inch spoke wheel wears a meatier 150-section rubber to handle the torque. Speaking of which, the liquid-cooled electric motor with controller produces 70 Nm. Peak power of 40.7 PS comes in at 8,000 rpm. The motor pairs with a 5-speed transmission with hydraulic clutch. A belt drive sends the power to the wheel.

The UM Renegade Thor draws power from a high-power lithium polymer battery. There are three battery capacities- 27 kWh (range up to 270 km); 15 kWh (up to 149 km); 7.5kWh (up to 81 km). The built-in board charger and fast charger are compatible with level 1,2 and 3 electric car chargers. With the fast charger, it takes 40 minutes to reach 80%. With Level 2 Charger for the 7.5 kWh, it takes 2 hours; and for the 15 kWh battery, it takes 4 hours. The 27 kWh battery takes 7 hours to charge.

Menza Lucat

Menza Lucat is marketed as India’s first electric Urban Sport motorcycle from Menza motors. The motorcycle is powered by a brushless DC motor which is rated at 18 KW and 60 Nm of torque. The motor derives electricity from a 6 KWh 72 V Li-ion battery pack which is claimed to offer a city range of 100 km and highway range of 150 km. The battery can be charged in any generic wall socket in about 4 hours while it is compatible with fast charging as well (90 minutes). The system is also supported by regenerative braking system. The power transmission occurs directly without the presence of a gearbox. The claimed top speed is 121 kmph which is impressive for an electric motorcycle. The Menza Lucat is equipped with 300 mm front and 230 mm rear disc brakes. The front tyre measures 110/70-R17 while the rear unit measures 150/60-R17. Price is at INR 2.79 lakhs (ex-showroom).

Twenty Two Motors Flow

Twenty Two Motors, a new electric mobility solutions start-up based out of Bhiwadi, Haryana has launched the Flow electric scooter, their flagship model for the Indian market. The company claims that the Flow is a smart mobility solution specifically designed for the urban masses of India and that it is the ‘most ahead of its time’. The Flow weighs in at a light 85 kg and can hit a top speed of 60 kmph courtesy of a 2100 Watt, 90 Nm electric motor developed by Bosch and a Li-Ion Battery Pack which can be charged within 5 hours to get a claimed range of more than 80kms which can be doubled by the addition of another battery. The battery can also be fast-charged up to 70% in just 1 hour. The company claims that the battery will have a life of over 50,000 kms of standard use. The company will be setting up its first experience center in Gurgaon by May this year while manufacturing will begin by the second quarter. The Flow is now available for pre-bookings and will be priced at INR 74,790 at launch.

Vespa showcases its retro electric scooter at this years  auto expo.The electric scooter comes bearing Vespa’s signature retro styling and offers 100 km range on a fully charged. The famous Italian scooter manufacturer claims, the Elettrica has been desined keeping urban mobility and new age buyers in focus. It draws energy from a lightweight lithium battery that is capable of generating 2kW peak power with a peak of 4kW. The Vespa Elettrica delivers a dizzying performance. The battery needs 4 hours to be charged fully and customers can charge it using a household plug as well. Also, the battery is claimed to be capable of running for 1000 cycles that means the scooter would run around 70,000 km without replacing the battery. The Vespa Elettrica comes with two different riding modes that are Eco and Power. The Eco mode enables it to run at a speed of 30 kmph.
